Protecting God's Children - The VIRTUS Training Program

Making a safe environment for ALL God’s Children!!

The Diocese of Memphis' Protecting God’s Children Program is aimed at protecting children from sexual abuse. The VIRTUS training program is an AWARENESS session for adults in the faith community. This education helps prevent child sexual abuse by first making every adult employee and volunteer aware of the issues surrounding child sexual abuse. This includes awareness of the many ways that sexual abuse harms its victims, their families, the parish, and the community. The awareness session also helps adults learn to recognize the warning signs of abuse, and shows them the appropriate way to respond to suspicious behavior.

We encourage ALL ADULTS to take this training session those of you who have direct contact with children in any way. It is only required to be taken once, lasts approx. 2 hours, and you will come out knowing how to protect all God’s children. You need to learn about the “healthy suspicion” we must practice everyday of our lives.

PLEASE NOTE THAT WHILE ALL ADULTS ARE ENCOURAGED TO ATTEND A VIRTUS TRAINING PROGRAM; ANY ADULT HAVING DIRECT INVOLVEMENT WITH CHILDREN - SCHOOL VOLUNTEERS/DRIVERS, COACHES, YOUTH ACTIVITY LEADERS/VOLUNTEERS, SCOUTING LEADERS, NURSERY VOLUNTEERS AND ALL STAFF ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND A VIRTUS TRAINING SESSION AND TO UNDERGO A CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECK.
